Just came back from the dentist (8 years of snusing)
« on: November 11, 2013, 12:06:02 PM »
Yes. I started snusing when I was about 13-14 years old together with smoking at that time. Right now I haven't smoked a single cigarette since june, and finally feel I've quit for good. My last visit at the dentist was several years ago, so I was a bit worried for today, especially since my wisdoms teeth are popping out (and one has been bugging me).

The guy asked me if I smoked or used snus, I said I snus like crazy and that I quit smoking with it, and he said "that's awesome, then you won't get lung cancer", followed by "snus is good for the teeth, but it's important to change sides". I have used the left side since my start, but I think he barely noticed.

He told me my teeth were in perfect condition and that no action probably wouldn't be needed for my wisdom teeth. I just needed to start flossing which I never do and never have done. I had a tiny bit of tartar (I think that's the word) which he quickly removed. He then scheduled my next appointment in 2015, just because "it looked so good".

I always got cavities when I was small; each visit they found one or more that needed to be drilled. Since I started snusing I haven't had a single one, even if usually I just brush my teeth once a day in before bed (due to rushing in the morning).

This might be genetic to a point, but I'm very happy with the results, and just thought I'd share them.

I go to the dentist twice a year (normal around here) and my dental health has been pretty damn perfect even though they say "it's smokeless tobacco and it's bad". Blah, blah, blah.

there's a book out called "For Smokers Only; How Smokeless Tobacco can save yout life" and it raises some pretty valid points. I definitely say check it out. here some facts about smokeless tobacco and how it really doesn't do much. http://rodutobaccotruth.blogspot.com/2011/06/truth-about-federal-warnings-on.html
